Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos today, ruled out
the restrictive movement of citizens in Lagos state during the monthly
environmental exercise on every last Saturday of the month.
The Federal High
Court described the restriction as unlawful justice. Idris Mohammed while
delivering his judgment today the 16, March 2015
The
Court however, ruled that restriction of movement for the sole reason of
Environmental Sanitation amounts to a breach of the rights of citizens to
liberty, freedom of movement as cited in section 35 & 41 of the Nigerian constitution.
From all indication, the ruling by the court voids the Lagos state government
to arrest any citizen moving between the hours of 7am-10am during the period.
