White House Condem The Killing of 21 Egyptian Christians In Libya





The White House on yesterday condemned the killing of 21 Egyptian Coptic Christians by militants claiming affiliation with the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, saying the action “only further galvanizes the international community to unite against ISIL”.
 Report says, gruesome video of the beheadings, which the group said took place outside the Libyan capital Tripoli, prompted Egyptian forces to conduct retaliatory airstrikes on ISIL targets in Libya early this morning.
Egypt has also called for an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council.
The Barak Obama administration, in a statement released by press secretary Josh Earnest in the late hours of Sunday, called the killing of the 21 Egyptian men a “despicable and cowardly murder” however called for acceleration of the need for a political resolution to the burgeoning conflict in Libya.
“We call on all Libyans to strongly reject this and all acts of terrorism in order to unite in the face of this shared and growing threat,” the statement continued. “We continue to strongly support the efforts of the United Nations Special Representative of the Secretary-General Bernardino Leon to facilitate formation of a national unity government and help foster a political solution in Libya’’.
