The APC senators insisted on
going ahead with the confirmation process while the PDP senator staged a walk
out of the hallow chamber.
Meanwhile, the minority leader
Chief Godswill Obot Akpabio in a statement with news correspondence said the
PDP senator did not want to be part of any illegality that was why we left. We
are not against any nominee; we are not against Mr. President, we want the
president to succeed but we want the rule of law to be maintained.
After all said and done, there
was an open floor for the confirmation of the former Governor Rotimi Chibuike
Amaechi by the senate leader Bukola Saraki.
Senator Bukola Saraki, also urge
all the newly confirmed ministers to work assiduously with the President to
make Nigeria proud in dispatching their oversight functions. He also said that
they minister will be held accountable with some of the issues put before the
house if they fail to carry out their job responsibility with utmost integrity.
The senate also confirmed the
appointment of Mohammadu Yakubu as the chairman of the Independent National Electoral
Commission alongside 5(five) other commissioners as follows:
Baba Shettima Hassan
Anthonia Okosi
Amina Zakari
Mohammed Mustafa Lekki
Soebi Adedeji Solomon
With the motion was moved by the
senate majority leader Ali Ndume. The new INEC chairman also said the use of
electronic voting in Nigeria was desirable and inevitable.
