Federal High Court
in Lagos, headed by Justice Idris Mohammed will today the 22nd of February,
2016 decide whether or not to allow the stay of tariff increase by the Nigeria
Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).
Although, the actual
date set to decide whether the application filed should hold precedence was
faulted due to the argument from NERC’s lawyers.
You will also recall last
year, that activist lawyer Toluwani Adebiyi had filed a suit seeking an injunction
from the court to restrain NERC from implementing the hike in tariff until
there is a positive increase in power for a minimum of 18hrs a day.
Meanwhile, both parties
involved were directed by Justice Idris Mohammed to maintain status quo thus,
while the suit was pended, NERC went ahead to announce a hike in tariff.
